Tres Agaves

How the hell did Tres Agaves Mexican Kitchen & Tequila Lounge get so popular without any advertising? They opened on Wednesday and haven’t been deluged with press, but by 8pm, the place was packed to the exposed timber rafters.

Pitchers of excellent margaritas started at $24 and hover around the $32 range before shooting up for the ultra-premium tequila (why you would want to waste a good tequila on a margarita baffles me) at $64. The food was excellent… the braised ribs in green chiles, carnitas, and the chocolate cake with chili powder all stood out as winners, and the guacamole was fantastic as well.

Hopefully it will not be as busy during the week… as it would be a perfect place for an after work drink.

Sushi just around the corner?

So, it looks like the neighborhood is about to get a new sushi joint – Nama Sushi at King between 3rd and 4th.

This joins the new 3rd Street Grill (burgers and burritos) and a new indie Apple store and the soon to open Oneill’s Irish Pub as new neighborhood residents.

For no other reason than to test, here is a picture of pizza toppings.

Hotel Figueroa

Hotel Figueroa

The Veranda Bar at the Hotel Figueroa in LA. The bar was the best part of the hotel. The errant hair in the bathroom was the worst. Somewhere in between was a decent cafe and 24 hours of Wi-Fi internet for $7.95.

The Cold Killer

Since we’re both suffering from a nasty sinus cold – so here is my recipe for my coldbuster pasta..

1 Lb of De Cecco Spaghetti, cooked Al Dente

Sauce:
1 large knob of butter
Olive oil of equal amount to the butter
3 tblsp pesto
3/4 pound chicken breast, diced
Hot Pepper Flakes
Dried Oregano
1 minced habanero pepper
10 cloves garlic, roughly chopped
1 large heirloom tomato, diced
Splash of white wine
Black pepper
Grated parmasan cheese

Over medium heat, melt the butter and then combine with the pesto and olive oil. Add chicken, pepper flakes, oregano and habanero pepper. Stir to keep it from browning or burning for 5 minutes. Add wine, garlic, tomato and put on low heat for 4 minutes. Add black pepper and parmasan right before adding to pasta and plating.

Perfect for breaking those clogged sinuses up!
